Spartanburg, SC-Converse soccer fell to the Lander University Lady Bearcats 0-4 Wednesday night, dropping the Valkyries' overall record to 2-5 on the season. Lander improves to 3-1-1 overall.
The fist Bearcat goal came in the 10th minute from Christin Moss after she recovered a blocked shot for a quick attack in the box. Goal two was scored in the 23rd minute by Lander's Lara Middlebrooks and the third was fired by Lauren MacDonald after capitalizing on an effective cross from Kelly Maupin. The Bearcats shut-out Converse in the 82nd minute when Jamie Shaw fired a long-shot from 35yds out, sending the ball soaring over Valkyries keeper Erica Clinton.
Converse was outshot 19-2 and the Bearcats managed 12 shots-on-goal. Both of the Converse shots were on goal and were fired by freshman Mary Kathryn Hemphill. The Valkyries goalkeepers managed 8 total saves for the match.
The Valkyries take the field again on Saturday, September 19th when they face Conference Carolinas foe Saint Andrews Presbyterian in Laurinburg, NC.
