SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University Field Hockey team hung around for three quarters with No. 4 West Chester on Sunday morning, but a pair of fourth quarter goals helped the Golden Rams down the Valkyries at Weisiger Stadium.
With the loss the Valkyries have now dropped four straight games and they are now 2-4 overall. For West Chester they improve to 6-1 overall this season.
In the opening quarter the two teams were deadlocked on the field and on the stat sheet. Each team had a pair of shots, each team attempted three corners and each team recorded a save against one another.
During the second quarter the Golden Rams began to retain possession of the ball a little more in the Valkyries. The Converse defense stood strong and withstood a trio of shots and a pair of penalty corners. The two teams went into the halftime break tied at two.
Following the halftime break both offenses began to press more as both sides looked for the first goal of the game. In the third period, West Chester attempted five shots and Converse attempted three shots. The Valkyries had three saves in the period while the Golden Rams had just one save. West Chester attempted six corners in the quarter and Converse attempted just two corners in the period.
In the fourth quarter disaster struck for the Valkyries as West Chester scored two minutes into the period. Converse attempted to rally back but it left their defense vulnerable as the Golden Rams scored a second goal four minutes later. Converse ran out of time before they were able to find the back of the net.

The Valkyries will be back in action this coming Wednesday evening against Lander University. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m. at Weisiger Stadium.
