SLIPPERY ROCK, PA. – The Converse University Field Hockey team went 0-2 this weekend with losses to Slippery Rock and Frostburg State University.
With losses the Valkyries drop to 2-2 overall on the season. Slippery Rock improves to 4-0 on the season and Frostburg State improved to 3-3.
Game One: Slippery Rock 2, Converse 1
- Slippery Rock scored the first goal of the match four minutes into the opening quarter.
- The Valkyries did not take long to respond as Sol Garcia Berro found Isabella Massafra for the game tying goal.
- In the second quarter Slippery Rock took the lead with a goal by Lucy Hutchinson.
- The Valkyries were outshot 21-4 overall and 15-2 in shots on goal on Friday afternoon. However, the Valkyries finished with 13 saves in the match.
Game Two: Frostburg State 2, Converse 1 (Overtime)
- The two squads were scoreless through the first quarter of action.
- In the second quarter, Cameran Huyett scored on a penalty stroke and gave the Valkyries the early lead.
- Following a scoreless third quarter, Ava Shorkey tied the game up in the 48th minute of action.
- The game went into overtime where Frostburg State scored the game winner on a penalty stroke.
Next Up:
The Converse Field Hockey team will travel down to Newberry on Tuesday evening. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
