FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Converse University women's soccer team defeated Emmanuel 5-2 on Wednesday evening at the Stephen Lee Complex.
The Valkyries improved to 2-3-1 overall and 2-2-0 in Conference Carolinas action this season. Meanwhile, Emmanuel drops to 1-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in Conference Carolinas play. This is the first time since 2015 that the Valkyries have scored five or more goals in back-to-back games.
The Converse offense lit up the scoreboard on Wednesday evening as they attempted 14 first half shots against the Lions. However, Emmanuel scored the first goal of the game in the 22
nd minutes of action.
With eight minutes to go in the half
Kathryn Hoffman found
Keira Smylie for the game-tying goal. Less than a minute later, Smylie scored her second goal of the half from a pass by
McKenzie Bundy. The Valkyries held the lead for two minutes before Emmanuel tied the match in the 40
th minute.
In the second half the Valkyries continued to hold the momentum and
Charlie Morgan,
Kaitlyn Dibert and
Keira Smylie all scored second half goals. Sheli Bershadski assisted on the final goal of the day for the Valkyries. Smylie's hat-trick is the first by a Valkyrie player since last season's home opener against Allen.
