FERRUM, Va. – The Converse University volleyball team picked up their second consecutive sweep on Saturday afternoon when they defeated Ferrum 3-0.
With the win the Valkyries improve to 3-6 overall and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas action. Meanwhile, Ferrum drops to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in Conference Carolinas play.
Ferrum opened up the first period on a 6-1 run against Converse but the Valkyries bounced back with a 9-4 run of their own to tie the set at 10 all. The Panthers once again stole the momentum and built a 19-15 advantage over the Valkyries. Converse once again countered and tied the set late in the opening set. The Valkyries continued to hold the momentum and eventually held set point at 24-23. The Panthers fended off one set point before the Valkyries won the opening set 26-24.
Ferrum once again took an early 10-8 lead over the Valkyries in the second set. Then the Valkyries went on a 6-0 run and built a 16-10 advantage over the Panthers. Converse held the momentum the rest of the set and won with a final score of 25-18.
Converse opened up the third quarter on an 8-4 run against the Panthers. The Valkyries held momentum the entire period and rolled to a 25-15 third set win over Ferrum.
Converse finished with 55 points, 43 kills, 7 aces, 5 blocks, 40 assists and 38 digs against the Panthers.
Ariel Bryant finished with a team high 14 kills,
Samiya Bolton finished second on the team with 11 kills and
Alayah Robertson finished third on the team with seven kills.
Alysha Arroyo finished with a team high 27 assists and
Scarlett Xiong finished with a team best 10 digs.
Next Up:
Converse will stay on the road this week with a midweek matchup against North Greenville. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
