Valkyries Pick Up Fifth Straight Win Over North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Converse University volleyball team defeated North Greenville 3-1 on Tuesday evening at Hayes Gymnasium.
 
With the win the Valkyries improve to 4-6 overall and 3-0 in Conference Carolinas action. This is the first time since the 2023 season that the Valkyries have opened up conference play with three consecutive wins. Converse currently sits atop the Northwest Division standings with a 2-0 divisional record this season. Meanwhile, North Greenville drops to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in Conference Carolinas play this season.  
 
In the opening set, North Greenville took the momentum early by racing out to an 11-6 advantage over the Valkyries. Converse continued to play catch-up against the Trailblazers as they trailed 18-11 late in the first period. North Greenville held set point at 24-17, the Valkyries mounted a vicious comeback and held off six set points against the Trailblazers. Converse ran out of momentum as North Greenville won the opening set 25-23.
 
In the second set, the two squads were deadlocked through the first 20 points of the period. Then North Greenville made the first move and took a 13-10 lead over the Valkyries. Converse countered with five straight points to steal the lead back from the Trailblazers. Converse continued to build on their success and held a 20-17 advantage over North Greenville. The Trailblazers rallied by the home crowd and tied the set up at 20. This time the Valkyries handled business and won the second set by a final score of 25-22.
 
It was a back-and-forth contest for the Valkyries and the Trailblazers through the first 20 points of the third set. Then Converse took advantage of the early momentum swing and built a 16-11 lead over North Greenville. Converse eventually built a 20-12 advantage over North Greenville and went on to win the third set by a final score of 25-20.
 
Converse had all the momentum in the fourth set as they raced out to a 9-3 advantage over North Greenville. The Valkyries eventually built a 21-14 lead and cruised to a 25-18 fourth set win over the Trailblazers.
 
The Valkyries finished with 58 points, 49 kills, 5 aces, 4 blocks, 43 assists and 54 digs. Ariel Bryant led the team with 11 kills, Bree Lyons finished second with 10 kills and Ella Ruckman added eight kills in the win. Alysha Arroyo picked up her sixth double-double of the season with 33 assists and 10 digs. Scarlett Xiong led the team with 14 digs and Samiya Bolton finished third on the team with eight digs in the win.
 
Next Up:
Converse will stay on the road this weekend with trips to Southern Wesleyan on Friday night and to Young Harris on Saturday afternoon.
