GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Converse University volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday afternoon with a win over UVA Wise and a loss to Lee in the Redderson Invitational.

Jacob Bostic picked up his first career win on Saturday afternoon defeating UVA Wise 3-2. Converse finishes the opening weekend with an overall record of 1-2.
Match One: Converse 3, UVA Wise 2
- The opening set was deadlocked through the opening 24 points of the period. The Valkyries rallied right before the first set media timeout and held a 15-13 advantage over Wise.
- Converse continued to hold the momentum after the media timeout and held a 20-16 lead late into the first set.
- The Valkyries won the opening set 25-18, hitting .346 for the period and recording 15 total kills. Ariel Bryant led the way with four kills in the opening set, while Alysha Arroyo led the team with 11 assists and four digs.
- Converse held a 15-11 advantage going into the second period media timeout. Wise stole the momentum out of the timeout break and tied the set at 15.
- The Valkyries trailed 19-15 late in the period but stormed back with vengeance and tied the set at 24. Wise won the final two points of the period, tying the match at one set each.
- The third set the Valkyries raced out to a 13-9 advantage and forced Wise to call their first timeout of the period.
- Converse held a 21-16 advantage late in the period but after a Wise timeout allowed the Cavaliers to tie the set at 23. The Valkyries had to call a timeout trailing 24-23 and Wise blocked the final attack to steal the third set from Converse.
- Converse opened the fourth set on a 5-1 run against Wise. Converse once again forced UVA Wise to call a timeout up 13-9. The Valkyries held a 15-12 advantage going into the media timeout.
- Converse held a 21-18 advantage late in the period and forced Wise to call their second timeout following a kill by Bryant. The Valkyries held on and won the fourth set 25-18 forcing a fifth set.
- The Valkyries opened the fifth set on a 5-2 run against Wise. Converse continued to hold momentum and forced Wise to call a timeout up 11-7.
- The timeout seemed to work for Wise as they went on a 4-1 run against the Valkyries. Converse called a timeout holding a 12-11 advantage over the Cavaliers. The timeout worked as the Valkyries won the next point to extend their lead.
- Converse won the final set 15-11, the Valkyries tallied 62 kills, 58 assists, 60 digs, 8 aces and 5 total blocks against the Cavaliers.
- Ariel Bryant finished with 18 kills the second highest total in her career. Ella Ruckman reset her career high with 15 kills and Bree Lyons added 15 kills in the win.
- Alysha Arroyo finished with her second double-double of the season with a 44 assist and 16 dig performance against the Cavaliers. Scarlett Xiong finished with her first career double-double with a 15 dig and 10 assist performance.
- Ariana Bryant led the team with three blocks, while Alayah Robertson and Alysha Arroyo each contributed two blocks each.
Match Two: Lee 3, Converse 1
- Lee jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the opening set against the Valkyries. Converse made a late push but ran out of time as they lost the opening set 25-16.
- In the second set, Converse came out more focused and held an early 10-6 advantage over the Flames. The Valkyries held off numerous runs by Lee in the second set and secured a 25-23 win.
- In the third set the two teams were deadlocked through the first 12 points of the period. Lee than made the first move and took an 11-6 lead over the Valkyries midway through the period.
- The Valkyries rallied back and brought got within a point of the Flames at 19-18. Lee closed the set out on a 6-2 run and took a 2-1 lead into the fourth set.
- In the fourth set, Lee jumped out to a 6-3 advantage over the Valkyries and never looked back as they built a 24-11 lead. Converse won two points late but Lee took the final set 25-13.
- Converse tallied 59 points, 44 kills, 7 aces, 8 blocks, 42 assists and 54 digs. Bree Lyons led the team with 13 kills, Alayah Robertson finished second on the team with 10 kills and Ella Ruckman finished third on the team with 8 kills.
- Alysha Arroyo recorded her third double-double of the season with 33 assists and 11 digs. Scarlett Xiong led the team with 15 digs and Bree Lyons finished third on the team with 8 digs.

Converse will hit the road this coming weekend with a trip to Miami to compete in the Barry University Invitational.
