Valkyries Secure Narrow Victory over Bobcats, Dominate Tornado

SPARTANBURG, S.C. & BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Converse University women's tennis team defeated a pair of divisional opponents this weekend, narrowly defeating the Lees-McRae Bobcats 4-3 on Friday at home before cruising to a 7-0 road victory over the King Tornado on Saturday.

With the wins, Converse improves to 4-6 overall and 3-1 in Conference Carolinas action. The Bobcats are now 4-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play. King is 6-10 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Match One: Converse 4, Lees-McRae 3

Seniors Khushi Kharb and Lais Martins secured an easy 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. The Valkyries secured the doubles point as sophomore Tamanna Panwar and freshman Ellie Luppino won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

The Valkyries secured the two-set victories from sophomore Romy Rueff and freshman Camille Lacombe. Rueff, playing at No. 5 singles, won 6-1, 6-2. Lacombe won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles, putting the Valkyries one point away from victory.

Martins, playing at No. 3 singles, won her first set 6-3 before falling by the same score in the second set. She won 6-2 to secure the point and match for Converse.

Match Two: Converse 7, King 0

The Valkyries opened the match with a doubles-point sweep. Kharb and Martins won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Rueff and senior Laurel Maynor won 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Luppino and Panwar secured an easy 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Kharb won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to open up singles play. Panwar secured a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles. Martins secured the victory for the Valkyries with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles.

The Valkyries completed the sweep as Maynor won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, Rueff won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Lacombe won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries return to action on Friday, March 27, as they host the Mount Olive Trojans at the Rose. The match is set to begin at 1:30 P.M.
