CLEVELAND, TENN. – For the first time since 2021 the Converse women's lacrosse team is starting the season 1-0, following a 12-10 victory over Lee University on Saturday afternoon.

The Valkyries last 1-0 start came against Erskine in 2021, when they defeated the Flying Fleet 17-11. Converse hands Lee their fourth straight loss dating back to last season, this is also the Valkyries first ever win over Lee University.

Becky Reinhard's nine goal performance ties her career high for goals in a game. The Empire State native last accomplished the feat against Southern Wesleyan (3/23/24) during her freshman campaign. Hailey Obenchain finished second on the team with a multi-goal and multi-assist performance against the Flames. Karter Lauer added an assist and Maia Marquez scored her first career goal for the Valkyries.

Converse senior Ainsley Cua won the opening draw control but the Valkyries first shot attempt by Lauer was saved by the flames. The match remained scoreless for the first four minutes of the quarter, then with 10:55 to play in the period Reinhard scored the first goal of the contest for either side.

Cua won the second draw control of the game, but Zoey Jacobs shot went wide of the goal. The Flames tied the match up with 9:27 to play in the first quarter. Over the next nine minutes of action neither team was able to find the back of the net, then with just 23 seconds to go in the first stanza, Reinhard found the back of the net for a second time.

In the second quarter neither team was able to get anything going in the first four minutes of action. Reinhard recorded her first hat trick of the season with 10:26 to play in the half. Then two minutes later the junior found the back of the net for the Valkyries fourth goal of the afternoon. Lee ended their scoring drought with 1:58 to go in the half, however, Obenchain found Reinhard for a pair of goals right before the halftime buzzer sounded. Converse went into the break with a 6-2 advantage over Lee.

Reinhard did not let up in the third quarter as she scored seventh and eighth goals of the contest. Lee started to build momentum late in the third period as they scored three straight goals against the Valkyries. Going into the fourth period, Converse held an 8-5 edge over the Flames.

Obenchain scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to give the Valkyries a bit of breathing room against the Flames. Less than 30 seconds later Lauer found Marquez to put Converse up 10-5 with a little over 11 minutes to play in the game. Lee countered with a goal of their own with 8:38 to play in the contest.

Reinhard answered the Flames goal with her ninth goal of the game, putting Converse up 11-6. The Flames then gave the Valkyries a bit of a scare with three straight goals. With 5:20 to play in the game, Obenchain all but ended the game with the Valkyries 12^th goal of the contest. Lee added a goal in the final minute of action, but Converse was able to run out the clock and pickup their first win of the season.
