Martin Earns Elite 26 Award, Valkyries Podium Nine Times As Converse Finishes Runner-Up at Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Converse University women's track and field team had nine all-conference finishes and senior Bella Martin brought home the conference's Elite 26 Award which honors Conference Carolinas student-athletes with the highest cumulative grade-point average at their respective championship site.

The Valkyries finished second at the championship with 109.5 points. Mount Olive won the championship with 230.5 points.

Freshman Grace Davis won the 60-meter dash, setting a new conference and meet record in the process.

Meet Notes:
  • Davis ran a 7.38 in both the preliminary and finals of the 60-meter dash, winning gold in the event. Freshman Alayah Thomas finished sixth in the event and netted the Valkyries three points.
  • The Valkyries had three athletes place in the 60-meter hurdles: sophomore Kennedy Wright (third), junior Kamille Cunningham (fourth) and D'Asia Thomas (sixth).
    • Cunningham and Thomas went one-two in the event during the pentathlon.
  • Freshman Alayah Thomas finished eighth in the 200-meter dash.
  • Junior Jermyra Bethel finished fourth in the 400 meters.
  • Freshman Evie De Roos took home gold in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.30.
    • She also netted Converse three points by finishing sixth in the 3K.
  • Sophomore Sara Aguiar Torre finished third in the mile, running a time of 5:13.72.
  • Cunningham finished first in the pentathlon's high jump and Thomas finished third.
  • Thomas also finished third in the non-pentathlon high jump. Sophomore Kennedy Wright and Cunningham finished sixth and seventh respectively.
  • Cunningham finished first in the pentathlon long jump and second in the pentathlon shot put.
  • Martin hit a mark of 12.01 meters in the shot put, finishing fifth. Sophomore Asha Curry finished seventh in the event with a mark of 11.47 meters.
  • Martin finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 16.22 meters with Curry again following two places behind Martin.
  • The Valkyries finished second in both the 4000 meter distance medley and the 4x400 meter relay.
