Valkyries Overcome Early Deficit, Defeat NGU 4-3

SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – Despite dropping the doubles point to open the match, the Converse University men's tennis team (11-5, 6-2 Conference Carolinas) came back to defeat the North Greenville Trailblazers (7-15, 3-6 Conference Carolinas) by a final score of 4-3 Saturday afternoon at the Rose.

Junior Stanley Waters and sophomore Takuma Furumaki were the lone Converse pairing to win their doubles match, taking it 7-6 and winning the tiebreaker 7-4.

Furumaki also won his singles match at line three, taking it 7-5 in consecutive sets.

Freshman Lucas Walker opened No. 5 singles with a 6-2 victory in set one but dropped set two. He needed all 13 games in set three, but won the tiebreaker 7-4.

Junior Marty Letessier evened the match at 3-3 with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles.

With the match coming down to No. 6 singles, senior Leopold Morel won easily 6-1, 6-2 to secure the 4-3 victory.

Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, April 16, as they host the King University Tornado at the Rose. The match is set to begin at 3 P.M.
