Valkyries Wrap up 2025 Home Slate Against No. 4 Francis Marion

SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – The Converse University softball team (18-28, 10-12 Conference Carolinas) hosted the No. 4 Francis Marion Patriots (41-3, 21-1 Conference Carolinas) as the Valkyries' final home doubleheader of the 2025 season. The Patriots won both games, taking game one 10-7 and game two 5-0.

Freshman CJ McBride and senior Riley Lingerfelt both tossed complete games. Despite giving up 10 runs, McBride allowed just four earned runs. She struck out five batters. Lingerfelt struck out three batters.

Game One: Francis Marion 10, Converse 7

Francis Marion started out the game hot, plating six runs in the first two innings.

Sophomore Madison Davis brought home the Valkyries' first runs of the game with a one-on, one-out home run in the bottom of the second inning.

The Patriots plated one run each in the third and fourth innings. They added two more in the top of the sixth.

Sophomore Kiarra Thomas and graduate student Megan Monk both drove in runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Thomas cut the lead to three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with a three-run home run but the comeback attempt started too late and the Valkyries fell 10-7.

Game Two: Francis Marion 5, Converse 0

The Valkyries picked up two of their three hits in the bottom of the second inning.

Davis had the team's other hit with a one-out single in the fifth inning. Thomas almost hit another home run, but the Patriots' center fielder reached over the fence and robbed Thomas of the would-be go-ahead bomb.

On deck for the Valkyries:
The Valkyries conclude the 2025 regular season on Wednesday, April 16, as they wrap up the season series with Belmont Abbey. First pitch is scheduled for 1 P.M.
