Valkyries Decimate Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Converse University lacrosse team went wire-to-wire on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Chowan 21-10 at Hawks Field.
 
With the win Converse improves to 4-10 overall this season and 3-3 in Conference Carolinas action. Meanwhile, Chowan drops to 0-10 and 0-6 in Conference Carolinas play. For the first time in program history the Valkyries had seven players finish with at least four points on the afternoon. Gencie Coan, Corynn Psychoghios, and Zoey Jacobs all had six points each to lead the team, while Coan and Becky Reinard both had a team best five goals on the afternoon.
 
Hailey Obenchain scored a quartet of goals on the afternoon and became the first player in program history to record 90 or more points in a single season. Both Obenchain and Reinhard recorded their 50th goals of the season on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Megan Holleran and Brooklyn Walker both had four point performances, with Holleran recording a team high 11 draw control wins.
 
Obenchain and Reinhard scored the first goals of the contest within 10 seconds of each other off assists from Walker. Chowan scored their first goal of the contest with 10:05 to play in the opening period. Coan's first goal of the quarter was a woman down goal that gave the Valkyries a 3-1 advantage with 8:38 to play. Chowan countered with their second goal of the quarter with 7:44 to go in the period.
 
Obenchain and Psychoghios scored the next three goals in the first quarter to give Converse a 6-2 advantage. Chowan scored the final two goals of the first quarter to make is 6-4 going into the second quarter of action.
 
Reinhard scored the first goal of the period to stretch the Valkyries lead to 7-4. Chowan scored back-to-back goals to pull within a point of Converse. The Valkyries scored the final six goals of the period to go into the halftime break up 13-6.
 
In the third quarter, Chowan scored the first two goals of the period to pull within striking distance of the Valkyries. Converse scored the final six goals of the period to go into the final quarter up 19-8. In the final quarter of the game both teams scored a pair of goals.
