Valkyries Shine Bright Under Friday Night Lights

SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – For the first time this season, the Converse University women's tennis team (3-5, 0-2 Conference Carolinas) swept an opponent, defeating West Virginia Wesleyan College 7-0 Friday afternoon at the Rose.

Juniors Khushi Kharb and Lais Martins won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Freshmen Tamanna Panwar and Romy Rueff secured the doubles point with a 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Kharb followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles. Panwar needed three sets to win, but still secured the 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Rueff rounded out the odd-numbered courts with a three-set, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory.

On the even-numbered courts, Martins won 7-6 in consecutive sets. She took the first tiebreaker 9-7 and the second 7-2. Junior Sofia Giraldo-Jimenez won in three sets: 6-3, 1-6, 10-8. Freshman Agustina Pieve won in two sets: 6-2, 6-1.

Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries are back at it on Sunday, March 9 as they head to Emory, Virginia to take on Emory & Henry. The match is set to begin at 1:30 P.M.
