Women’s Tennis Downs Wasps on Sunday Afternoon

EMORY, Va.  – The Converse University women's tennis team (4-5, 0-2 Conference Carolinas) defeated the Emory & Henry Wasps (1-6, 0-3 South Atlantic Conference) by a final score of 6-1 at the Richardson Tennis Courts on the campus of Emory & Henry University.

With the win, Converse improves to 3-1 over their last four matches. The Valkyries have won three consecutive nonconference matches.

Juniors Khushi Kharb and Lais Martins won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Fellow junior Sofia Giraldo-Jimenez won at No. 3 doubles with freshman Agustina Pieve by a score of 6-4.

Kharb continued her winning ways by downing the Wasps' No. 1 by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Freshman Romy Rueff won at No. 5 singles in three sets. After dropping her first set 6-3, she bounced back and won her next two sets. She won 7-6 in set two, taking the tiebreaker 7-4 and winning a pro set in the third 10-8.

Martins won 6-1 in consecutive sets at No. 2 singles. Giraldo-Jimenez faired even better at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Pieve rounded out the match with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles.

Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries are back in action on Wednesday, March 12 as they host Benedict at the Rose. The match is set to begin at 2 P.M.
