Valkyries Win Big Over Bobcats

SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – The Converse University men's tennis team (3-4, 0-1 Conference Carolinas) extended their winning streak with a 6-1 defeat of West Virginia Wesleyan College (2-5) Friday afternoon at the Rose.

It is the team's third win of the season, and second consecutive win, with six or more points.

Junior Stanley Waters and sophomore Takuma Furumaki kicked the match off with a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Junior Marty Letessier and senior Leopold Morel secured the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Sophomore Manuel Roncero won at No. 1 singles in two sets: 6-1, 7-6. He won the tiebreaker 7-5. Freshman Lucas Walker won at No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-2.

In even-numbered singles, sophomore Takuma Furumaki won his match at No. 2 singles after dropping the first set. He won his second and third sets 7-6, 10-5. He secured his second-set tiebreaker 7-4. Waters won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Morel won at No. 6 singles 6-4, 7-6.

Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries are back at it on Sunday, March 9 as they head to Emory, Virginia to take on Emory & Henry. The match is set to begin at 1:30 P.M.
