SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – The Converse University women's tennis team (6-6, 1-2 Conference Carolinas) won their first conference match of the season by defeating the Emmanuel University Lions (2-7, 0-1 Conference Carolinas) Tuesday afternoon at the Sally Abney Rose Complex on the campus of Converse University. The Valkyries and Lions split singles play, but the Valkyries swept doubles play and edged the Lions 4-3.

Juniors Khushi Kharb and Lais Martins cruised to a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. Freshmen Tamanna Panwar and Romy Rueff followed with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. Juniors Sofia Giraldo-Jimenez and Laurel Maynor won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles to round out the doubles-point sweep.

Kharb continued with an easy 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Giraldo-Jimenez won in three sets, 7-6, 0-6, 6-3, at No. 3 singles, putting Converse one point away from securing the match.

Panwar won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, securing the victory for the Valkyries.

Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries are back in action on Friday, March 21 as they host the Chowan Hawks at the Rose. Converse then returns to the court on Saturday, March 22 as they celebrate senior day against the Barton Bulldogs. Both matches are set to begin at 2 P.M.
