Valkyries Sweep Second Consecutive Match, Defeat Benedict

SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – For the second consecutive match and third time in their last four matches, the Converse University men's tennis team (5-4, 0-1 Conference Carolinas) completed a seven-point sweep, this time defeating the Benedict College Tigers 7-0 at the Rose on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, Converse extends their win streak to four matches and their sweep streak to two matches. It is the first time in program history that the Valkyries have won back-to-back matches by a 7-0 score.

Senior Leopold Morel and junior Marty Letessier won in a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles 7-3. Freshman Lucas Walker and sophomore Ben Hyde-Smith won 6-1 at No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point.

Sophomore Manuel Roncero won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Walker rolled to a 6-0 victory in consecutive sets. Junior Stanley Waters won at No. 3 singles 6-1, 7-5 to secure the match.

Sophomore Takuma Furumaki won 6-3 in consecutive sets. Letessier won his first set 6-0 at No. 4 singles before going to a tiebreaker in set two, winning it 10-8. Morel played just one set at No. 6 singles and won 6-2.

Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries are back in action on Tuesday, March 18 as they host the Emmanuel University Lions at the Rose. The match is set to begin at 2 P.M.
