MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – With a victory at No. 1 singles on the women's side and No. 6 singles on the men's side, the Converse University tennis teams (both 1-3) fell to the Georgia College Bobcats (men 3-0, women 2-1) by a final score of 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Center Tennis Courts on the campus of Georgia College & State University.
Junior
Khushi Kharb claimed the victory at No. 1 singles for the women while fellow junior
Stanley Waters claimed the victory at No. 6 singles for the men.
Women's Notes:
A pair of 6-1 victories at the lower two doubles courts gave Georgia College the point, leaving No. 1 doubles even at 3-3 when the match was suspended.
Junior
Lais Martins held her own at No. 3 singles, but fell 7-5, 6-3. Junior
Sofia Giraldo-Jimenez bounced back from a 6-0 defeat to claim 3 games in her second set, falling 6-3.
Kharb took a 7-6 victory in her first set, claiming the tiebreaker 7-3. After falling 6-3 in set two, Kharb won another 7-6 victory, claiming the tiebreaker 7-5 and the match.
Men's Notes:
A 6-1 and 6-2 victory at the lower two doubles courts left No. 1 doubles unfinished with Georgia College securing the point.
Sophomore
Takuma Furumaki exchanged 6-3 set victories with his opponent before falling 6-0 in his third set. Fellow sophomore
Manuel Roncero bounced back from a 6-2 defeat in set one to claim set two 6-3. He fell in the decisive set 6-0.
Waters won 6-4 in his first set before claiming set two 7-6, taking the tiebreaker 7-5.
Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries continue their two-match stint in the peach state as they head to Augusta to take on the Augusta Jaguars on Wednesday, Feb. 19. The match is set to begin at 1:30 P.M.
