WINGATE, N.C. – For the second straight season the Converse University field hockey team fell to Wingate in the quarterfinals round of the South Atlantic Conference tournament, tonight the Valkyries fell by a final score of 1-0 to the Bulldogs.
Converse concludes the 2025 field hockey campaign with an overall record of 8-9. Meanwhile, Wingate advances to the semi-finals round on Friday afternoon and improves to 11-6 overall on the season.
The Valkyries came out ready to go in the opening quarter, outshooting the Bulldogs 5-0 and recorded four corners against Wingate. In the second quarter the roles were reversed as Wingate took control of the offense. The Bulldogs outshot the Valkyries 4-2 and Lauren Montgomery found Laela Brown for the Wingate goal.
In the second half Converse controlled the game once more on the offensive end. The Valkyries outshot Wingate 7-0 in the second half, however the Valkyries were never able to put the ball across the goal line.
