AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Converse University men's basketball team dropped their nonconference matchup to the Augusta University Jaguars 78-67 on Tuesday night.

With the loss, Converse falls to 1-3 on the season while Augusta improves to 3-4.

How It Happened
Augusta scored on the opening possession of the game but Converse responded on their following possession, tying the game once again at two points. Augusta hit a three pointer with 19:12 remaining in the first half and held onto that lead for the rest of the game.

After drawing the game within one point, 5-4 with 18:49 remaining in the first half, the Valkyries struggled for nearly eight minutes to make a basket, finally ending it with a three pointer from redshirt freshman Will Fowler, cutting the lead to 13 points, 20-7. The Final 11 minutes of the quarter actually saw Converse with a slight edge, out-scoring the Jaguars by a single point, 21-20, following Fowler's three pointer. But with the Valkyries' earlier dry spell still in effect, they trailed 40-28 going into halftime.

Using just over five minutes of the game clock, Converse cut the lead to 10 points twice and finally got the Jaguars' lead back to single digits, 48-39, with 14:26 remaining in the game. Another three pointer from Fowler had Augusta's lead at just five points, 50-45, with 12:37 to play.

The Valkyries cut the lead even further two and a half minutes later, trailing by just four points, 52-48, with just over 10 minutes remaining and again, 57-53, with eight minutes remaining in the game.

Augusta outpaced the Valkyries 21-14 over the final eight minutes of the game, growing the lead to the eventual final score of 78-67.

• Surratt led the Valkyries in scoring with 20 points. He shot 6-13, 46.2 percent, from the field and 1-2, 50.0 percent, from beyond the arc.
• Fowler and junior Chrisean Oree also scored in double digits with 15 and 14 points respectively.
• Fowler was tied with fellow redshirt freshman Camden Edmonds for the most three pointers made by a Valkyrie with three. Edmonds recorded nine points in the game.
• As a team, Converse shot 22-54, 40.7 percent, from the field and 9-23, 39.1 percent from beyond the arc.
• Freshman Jonathon Pickering secured a team-high seven rebounds.
• The Valkyries converted six Jaguars turnovers into five points.
