Goals Keep Coming As Valkyries Send Class of 2026 Seniors Out Victorious

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – With the conclusion of the regular season on Saturday, the Converse University women's soccer team (6-9-3, 5-6-2 Conference Carolinas) hosted senior day, honoring 11 incredible young women, prior to their game against the King Tornado (6-9-1, 4-8-1 Conference Carolinas). The Valkyries won the game 5-0, with three of the goals coming from seniors.

The seniors were honored with a ceremony prior to the game, highlighting career accolades and campus involvement.

Converse started a nearly-all-senior lineup, with all 10 of the team's uninjured seniors in the starting lineup: Giulia Rodrigues, Sherlyn Avalos, Raegan Cash, Olivia Giarrizzi, Savannah Mellon, Jasmine Hernandez, Samantha Novik, Skylar Lund, Colleen Pumphrey and Ashlyn Parsick. Fellow senior Darrianne Henry was injured and unavailable for the game but was honored at the ceremony before the game.

Novik got the scoring started in the 10th minute as she nailed a penalty-kick goal, putting Converse up 1-0 early. Following that, the game mostly happened in the middle of the field, with the Valkyries managing two shots on goals the rest of the first half and one shot that hit off the crossbar.

The Valkyries got to work early in the second half, with a goal in the 51st and 52nd minutes, scored by junior Hannah Liebig and Lund.

Rodrigues netted her second goal of the season in the 64th minute as Liebig picked up the assist.

Sophomore Sam Quillen scored the final goal of the game early in the 74th minute, assisted by fellow sophomore Ellie Murray.

With a comfortable lead, many of the Valkyries' seniors reentered the game for the final 13 minutes.

Freshman goalkeeper Julia Salo and sophomore goalkeeper Gabriella Gudeman combined for a shutout, their third combined shutout of the season.
