Senior Day Sweep For Converse Volleyball

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University volleyball team swept Chowan on Saturday afternoon inside the Weisiger Center.
 
With the win the Valkyries are now 16-6 overall on the season and 12-3 in Conference Carolinas action. The Valkyries are now 9-2 at home this season and they have won three straight matches. Meanwhile, Chowan drops to 5-18 overall and 4-11 in Conference Carolinas play.
 
Converse opened the first set on a 7-1 run against the Hawks, before Chowan countered with a 6-2 run of their own. The Valkyries got back on track with an 11-4 run and Converse held a 20-11 lead late in the period. Converse went on to win the opening set by a final score of 25-15.
 
Throughout the early moments of the second set the two teams went point-for-point with one another. Tied at 11 the Valkyries made their move rattling off seven straight points and taking a commanding 18-11 lead. The Valkyries let the Hawks rally a little bit late in the period, but they went on to win the second set by a final score of 25-18.
 
In the third set, the Valkyries opened up on an 8-3 run against Chowan. The Hawks once again responded and eventually tied the set at 11. Converse once again made a move and won the next three points against Chowan. The Hawks continued to hang around and eventually held a 20-19 advantage over Converse. Following a Converse timeout the Valkyries won the next two points to take back a 21-20 lead over Chowan.
 
The Hawks on the next point to tie the set at 21, however the Valkyries finished the set and the match on a high note. Ava Trentman recorded a kill to give the Valkyries the lead once again, while senior Noemia Chiacchio served up a pair of aces to get the Valkyries to match point. Chowan held off one match point, but Alayah Robertson put an exclamation point on the day with another kill to give Converse the win.
 
Converse finished with 54 points, 38 kills, 9 aces, 7 blocks, 36 assists and 51 digs. Samiya Bolton led the team with 10 kills, Alayah Robertson finished second on the team with 8 kills and Megan Carpenter added seven kills in the win. Chiacchio led the team with four aces, Ariel Bryant finished with a pair of aces.
 
Bryant, Robertson and Alysha Arroyo all finished with three blocks, while Arroyo led the team with 25 assists. Ariel Bryant led the team with 14 digs, Arroyo finished with 11 digs and Chiacchio added 10 digs in the win. Peyton Suggs tied her career high with 8 digs in the win for the Valkyries.
 
Next Up:
Converse will be back on the road this week with a division game against North Greenville on Tuesday evening. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m., in Tigerville, S.C.
