BANNER ELK, N.C. – For the second year in a row, the Converse University women's basketball team (5-13, 3-8 Conference Carolinas) completed their season sweep of divisional foe Lees-McRae (5-11, 3-9 Conference Carolinas) with a Tuesday-night, 62-48, victory over the Bobcats in Banner Elk.

Sophomore center Tatiana Brown led Converse with 15 points. Senior guard Elisa Solé Sanchez was the team's second-leading scorer with 14 points. Junior guard Alexis Becker led the Valkyries' charge on the boards with nine rebounds. Graduate guard Jordan Brown recorded six of the Valkyries' 11 steals.

The Valkyries went 5-of-15 from the field in the first quarter while holding Lees-McRae to 4-for-18 from the floor. Converse led the Bobcats 15-10 heading into the second quarter.

Converse's defense held the Bobcats to just three field goals in the second quarter, but the home team still managed another 10 points in the second frame. The Valkyries' offense, however, broke the game wide open, tallying 24 points on seven made second-quarter field goals, three from beyond the arc, and a 7-for-8 performance from the free throw line. Converse went into the locker room with almost double Lees-McRae's score, 39-20.

The Bobcats cut into the lead a total of five points in the second half, not nearly enough to erase the 19-point halftime deficit as Converse secured their second victory of the season over Lees-McRae.

The Valkyries are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 1 as they head to Young Harris, Georgia, to take on the Young Harris College Mountain Lions at 2 P.M.
