Washington Tallies 17 In Valkyries' Road Matchup Against Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – In her best scoring effort of the season, senior guard Zariyah Washington led the Converse University women's basketball team (3-12, 1-7 Conference Carolinas) in points scored with 17 as the Valkyries fell 66-54 to the Emmanuel University Lions (5-12, 4-6 Conference Carolinas).

It is the second time Washington scored double-digit points this season, with the other coming on Dec. 4 against Augusta.

Graduate guard Jordan Brown led all players in rebounding with seven. Junior guard Andrea Gutierrez Ciordia led all players with four steals while Washington passed all Lions with three steals.

The Valkyries won the turnover battle with 16 while forcing 20 from Emmanuel.

Converse saw their best shooting quarter in the fourth with 42.11% from the field and 28.57% from beyond the arc. Twenty-eight of the Valkyries' 54 points came in the paint and tallied 10 second-chance points.

The Valkyries are back on the court on Wednesday, Jan. 22 as they head to divisional-foe North Greenville for a contest with the Trailblazers. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 P.M.
