TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Converse University women's basketball team (4-12, 2-7 Conference Carolinas) snapped their six-game losing streak by downing the North Greenville Trailblazers (4-12, 4-6 Conference Carolinas) with a two-possession, 54-47, road victory on Wednesday night. It is Converse's first road victory of the season.

Senior guard Elisa Solé Sanchez led the team in scoring with 17 points, two points shy of her season high. Sophomore center Tatiana Brown also tallied double-digit points with 15, a new career high for the Virginia-Beach native. Brown also posted four of the Valkyries' six blocks. The Valkyries' top-scoring duo combined for seven steals.

Converse came out of the gate hot, shooting 60% form the field and 66.7% from beyond the arc. They held the Trailblazers to 41.7% from the field as Converse ended the first quarter up five points, 17-12.

The Valkyries' offense slowed in the second quarter, and North Greenville made up the five-point deficit, tying the game 23-23 at halftime.

Both teams sank five field goals in the third quarter, tallying 12 points each. Entering the fourth quarter, the game was tied 35-35.

Converse's offense and defense worked in sync with one another in the fourth quarter, drilling seven field goals and shooting just over 53%. The Valkyries held North Greenville to just three field goals and 20% shooting from the field in the final quarter. Despite the Trailblazers pulling within one point with 1:44 to play in the game, the Valkyries held North Greenville without points on their next four possessions enroute to securing the 54-47 victory.

The Valkyries are back on the court on Saturday, Jan. 25 as they host the UNC Pembroke Braves at the Weisiger Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 P.M.
