GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Converse University Field Hockey team suffered their first setback of the season on Tuesday evening, falling to Lander by a final score of 2-1 at Frank Hill Stadium.
Converse falls to 3-1 overall on the season and 3-1 in South Atlantic Conference action. Meanwhile, Lander improves to 2-2 overall this season and 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference play.
It was defensive battle between the two squads and shots came at a premium on Tuesday evening. In the first half, the Valkyries were outshot 5-1 and scored their lone goal in the second period of action.
In the second half, Converse outshot Lander 3-1, and
Amparo Figueroa tied the match at one with six minutes left to play in the match. The tie was short lived however, as the Bearcats scored less than a minute later to steal a victory from Converse.
