Valkyries Earn First 2024 Sweep of NCAA Opponent With 7-0 Defeat of King

BRISTOL, Tenn.  – For the first time in their 2024 campaign, the Converse University women's tennis team (6-10, 1-4 Conference Carolinas) swept an NCAA opponent by defeating the King Tornado (0-12, 0-4 Conference Carolinas) by a final score of 7-0 Monday afternoon in Bristol.

King, who only has four players on their roster, forfeit No. 3 singles each match. Only needing to win one of the two doubles matches, senior Natalie White and sophomore Khushi Kharb secured a 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles to claim the point. Graduate student Tonya Glogowski-Watson and sophomore Lais Martins won a 6-5 decision by opponent retirement at No. 1 singles.

The Valkyries secured the match by winning their required three singles matches by default. Number 5 and No. 6 singles were forfeiting automatically due to the Tornado not having enough players. The third victory came at No. 2 singles as an injury forced King to not field a player at the position.

Of the three singles matches played, Glogowski-Watson kicked off the action at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. White earned her second singles victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles.

Sophomore Sofia Giraldo-Jimenez collected a double-bagel, 6-0, 6-0, victory at No. 4 singles to round out Converse's sweep.

Next Up For Converse:

The Valkyries return to the courts on Friday, April 12 as they head to Wilson, North Carolina to take on the Barton Bulldogs beginning at 2 P.M.
