MURFREESBORO, N.C.  – The Converse University women's tennis team (7-11, 2-5 Conference Carolinas completed a 6-1 Saturday rout of the Chowan Hawks (1-12, 0-7 Conference Carolinas) to round out their two-road trip in the Tar Heel State with a victory. The Valkyries fell 6-1 to Barton (12-3, 5-1 Conference Carolinas) on Friday, April 12.

Friday, April 12: Barton 6, Converse 1

The Bulldogs opened the match by sweeping the doubles point. Sophomore Khushi Kharb and senior Natalie White took their opponents to the tie-breaking 13th set at No. 2 doubles but ultimately fell 7-4 in the tiebreaker.

Kharb scored the only point for Converse in the match, taking her first set by a bagel and winning her second set by a breadstick, 6-0, 6-1.

Saturday, April 13: Converse 6, Chowan 1

The Hawks forfeited No. 3 doubles due to low numbers and an inability to field a full roster. Graduate student Tonya Glogowski-Watson and sophomore Lais Martins rallied to win at No. 1 doubles 6-4, securing the point for Converse.

Like with doubles, Chowan forfeited the lowest court, giving sophomore Laurel Maynor a victory by default. Martins secured a double bagel victory at No. 5 singles to put the Valkyries one point away from securing the match.

Glogowski-Watson secured the match with a double breadstick victory at the highest court, 6-1, 6-1.

Kharb followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles. Over two singles matches this weekend, both at No. 2 singles, Kharb dropped just two games and outscored opponents 24-2.

With the match decided, sophomore Sofia Giraldo-Jimenez took an 8-2 pro-set victory at No. 4 singles.
