Men’s Tennis Rolls Hawks, Splits North-Carolina Road Trip

MURFREESBORO, N.C.  – The Converse University men's tennis team (8-7, 3-3 Conference Carolinas completed a 6-1 Saturday rout of the Chowan Hawks (0-11, 0-6 Conference Carolinas) to round out their two-road trip in the Tar Heel State with a victory. The Valkyries fell 6-1 to Barton (8-6, 5-0 Conference Carolinas) on Friday, April 12.

Friday, April 12: Barton 6, Converse 1

The Bulldogs took the doubles point by winning at No. 3 doubles followed by No. 1 doubles. Freshmen Takuma Furumaki and Manuel Roncero helped the Valkyries avoid the doubles sweep with a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.

With the match decided by previous results, Roncero tallied the Valkyries' lone point of the match with an 8-2 pro-set victory at No. 5 singles.

Saturday, April 13: Converse 6, Chowan 1

Flipping the script on Friday's results, the Valkyries opened by sweeping the doubles point. Chowan forfeited No. 3 doubles as they did not have enough players. Sophomore Marty Letessier and junior Leopold Morel rolled to a 6-1 breadstick victory at No. 1 singles. Furumaki and Roncero rounded out the sweep with a 6-4 decision at No. 2 doubles.

In singles action, junior Cameron Davies was awarded a victory at No. 6 singles due to the insufficient number of players for Chowan. After taking set one 6-1, Letessier's opponent at No. 3 singles retired, putting Converse one win away from taking the match.

Furumaki was the one to secure the match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles. Roncero secured the team's fifth point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles, his fourth victory of the weekend across singles and doubles play.

Morel rounded out the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles.

Up Next For the Valkyries:

The Valkyries return home to the Rose for their final two matches of the regular season. Following Converse University's Founder's Day celebrations, the Valkyries will host the Mount Olive Trojans on Friday, April 19 at 1 P.M. Then the Valkyries welcome the Francis Marion Patriots to the Rose for senior day on Saturday, April 20. The match is set to begin at 11 A.M.
