Game Recap: Softball |

Lingerfelt Eclipses 100 Strikeouts For the Season In Doubleheader Against GCSU

SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – Squaring off twice with a regional foe on Thursday afternoon, the Converse University softball team (9-15) dropped both games of their doubleheader to the Georgia College Bobcats (13-10, 1-5 PBC). The Bobcats won game one 17-6 and game two 10-1. Both games were shortened to five innings due to the run rule.

Game One: Georgia College 17, Converse 6 (5 Innings)

With one run in the second inning, nine in the third and five in the fifth for the Bobcats, freshman Kiara Thomas cut the lead to 15-1 when she hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Two more runs in the top of the fifth made the game 17-1 in favor of the Bobcats.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, a walk for sophomore Karleigh Crabill gave the Valkyries one run. A bases-clearing grand slam gave junior Sydney Watson four RBIs but it was too little too late as the game was called after the fifth inning via run rule with the Bobcats up 17-6.

Game Two: Georgia College 10, Converse 1 (5 Innings)

Junior Riley Lingerfelt collected three strikeouts in the top half of the first inning, becoming the second Valkyrie in program history to reach triple-digit strikeouts in a season. The Bobcats collected four runs in the inning.

Three runs in the second, one in the fourth and two in the fifth gave the Bobcats a 10-0 when Thomas singled with a hard-hit ball to the Bobcats' pitcher, giving Converse their first and only run of the game with two outs in the fifth inning. Georgia College collected the next out and won the game 10-1 in five innings.

On deck for the Valkyries:

The Valkyries return to the diamond on Sunday, March 10 as they continue their homestand by hosting the Claflin Panthers for a doubleheader.
