Valkyries Slay Dragons and Tie Multiple School Records

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse women's lacrosse team scored early and often on Wednesday night, as they dominated Tiffin 26-6 at Weisiger Stadium.

Converse improves to 4-3 overall this season, while Tiffin drops to 2-3 on the year. Converse tied the school record for goals in a game with 26 against the Dragons. The Valkyries also scored 26 goals against Tiffin back in 2010 and against Adams State during the 2011 season. Converse has now outscored Tiffin by a combined score of 52-14 and the Valkyries 20 goal margin today was the largest in series history.

Converse also tied the school record for assists in a game (16) and points in a game with 42 against the Dragons.

A total of seven players scored for the Valkyries today and all seven finished with at least two goals in the win for Converse. Izzy Eby and Hailey Obenchain both led the team with eight points, while Gencie Coan and Becky Reinhard were right behind with six points each.

Megan Holleran found Karter Lauer for the first goal of the game for the Valkyries just 29 seconds into the game. It was the eighth fastest goal in program history and nine seconds later Hailey Obenchain found the back of the net for the second goal of the game. Less than a minute later, Gencie Coan found the back of the net for Converse and the Valkyries held a 3-0 advantage.

Katelyn Jarvis put Tiffin on the board with 12:35 to play in the first quarter but the Valkyries responded with a Karly Driscoll goal at the 11:41 mark. Tiffin ended the period with three goals, while the Valkyries held a 9-3 advantage going into the second quarter.

Lauren Walsh opened the scoring for Tiffin in the second quarter with a goal at the 14:44 mark of the period. Converse scored the next nine goals and held an 18-4 lead at the halftime intermission.

In the second half the Valkyries outscored the Dragons 8-2, as Coan scored the final goal of the match with 2:41 to play in the game.
