SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse women's lacrosse team defeated Virginia State 13-9 on Wednesday night in front of the home town crowd at Weisiger Stadium.

With the win the Valkyries have now won three straight games and improve to 5-3 overall on the season. Meanwhile, Virginia State drops to 3-3 overall on the season.

It was a tough and physical game on Wednesday evening between the two schools. Hailey Obenchain found Gencie Coan for the first goal of the game at the 12:16 mark of the opening quarter. Karly Driscoll scored the next two goals for the Valkyries as they led 3-0 going into the second period.

Virginia State scored two quick goals to start out the second quarter and Valkyries clung to a one goal advantage. Izzy Eby scored with 10 minutes to go in the half to give the Valkyries a 4-2 advantage. Converse went into the halftime break up 6-4 after Megan Holleran scored with 11 seconds to go in the half.

In the third quarter the Valkyries took control and outscored the Trojans 5-1. Both Karter Lauer and Becky Reinhard scored a pair of goals in the third period. Converse held an 11-5 advantage going into the final quarter of action.

The Trojans attempted to comeback in the fourth quarter as they outscored Converse 4-2. However, the Valkyries had a pair of timely goals to keep the game out of reach for Virginia State.
