WTE: Kharb Takes No. 2 Singles Against Nationally-Ranked Erskine
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second consecutive match, sophomore
Khushi Kharb defeated her opponent at a top-two singles position. While the Converse University women's tennis team (5-8, 0-2 Conference Carolinas) fell to the Erskine Flying Fleet (10-2, 2-0 Conference Carolinas) by a final score of 6-1, Kharb extended her personal singles winning streak and moved into a three-way tie for the most singles wins of any Valkyrie this season.
Despite both teams being members of Conference Carolinas, the Valkyries' matchup with Erskine was scheduled independently of the league schedule and did not count for or against either team's conference record.
The Fleet Flying took all three doubles courts to open the match with the one-point advantage.
Erskine secured one singles win before Kharb took a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles to cut the lead to 2-1.
Senior Natalie White put up the biggest fight for her opponent aside from Kharb, winning her first set 6-3. After falling in set two, White fought valiantly but ultimately fell 7-5 in the decisive set.
Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries return to the courts on Wednesday, April 3, as they continue conference play against King in a midweek road match. First serve is set for 2 P.M.
