Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Faces Sunday Set-Back Against Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C.  – In the team's second-to-last nonconference doubleheader of the season, the Converse University softball team (14-22, 3-5 Conference Carolinas) fell in both games Sunday to the Anderson Trojans (19-11, 8-0 South Atlantic Conference). The Trojans won game one 6-3, the first time the Valkyries have played a full seven innings against the regional powerhouse. Anderson won game two 1-0, also taking seven innings.

Freshman Madison Davis made her first career start in the circle in game one. Offensively, three Valkyries all led the team in game one with two hits each. The Valkyries' four hits in game two were all split evenly amongst four different players.

Game One: Anderson 6, Converse 3

Converse opened up by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning, claiming the program's first-ever lead over the Trojans. Unfortunately it was short-lived as Anderson scored twice in the bottom of the first inning, retying the game.

Davis helped her own cause with a two-out, RBI single in the top of the second inning.

Anderson added three runs in the bottom of the third inning and one in the bottom of the fifth to bring them to their 6-3 victory. Despite being outscored, the Valkyries out-hit the Trojans 10-9 and committed just one error compared to the Trojans' two.

Game Two: Anderson 1, Converse 0

With the Valkyries' ace, junior Riley Lingerfelt, in the circle for game two, the Trojans struggled to even have runners reach base in game two.

Through the first four innings, each team had just a pair of hits and no runs to show for it. Sophomore Chensey Miles put herself in scoring position with two outs via a single and a stolen base, but was left stranded after the next batter struck out.

A lead-off double became the game's only run in the bottom of the sixth inning for Anderson.

Sophomore Victoria Dichio extended the Valkyries' final chance at scoring with a two-out single in the top of the seventh, but Converse was unable to do anything with the opportunity and fell 1-0.

On deck for the Valkyries:

The Valkyries return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 27 as they continue Northwest Division play against Lees-McRae at Tyger River Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 P.M.
