Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Kharb Takes No. 1 Singles Against Belmont Abbey

SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – Shining as a bright spot in an otherwise tenebrific match, sophomore Khushi Kharb took both her singles match and doubles match as the Converse women's tennis team (5-7, 0-2 Conference Carolinas) fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (11-8, 2-0 Conference Carolinas) by a final score of 6-1.

Kharb and her partner, senior Natalie White, were the Valkyrie duo to win their doubles match, taking No. 2 doubles 6-3.

The third singles match completed, Kharb defeated her opponent in just two sets, needing an additional game to win set one 7-5 and cruising to a breadstick 6-1 victory in set two.

Graduate student Tonya Glogowski-Watson forced a tiebreaker in both of her sets at No. 2 singles, but ultimately fell to her Crusader foe. Sophomore Lais Martins fell 6-2 in her first set but fought back to take set two 7-5. While she fought valiantly in the third set, Belmont Abbey took the decisive set at No. 5 singles 6-4.

Next Up For Converse:

The Valkyries return to the courts on Thursday, March 28 as they host the Erskine Flying Fleet at the Sally Abney Rose Complex. The match is set to begin at noon.
