Valkyries Offense Goes Berserk Against Bobcats

BANNER ELK, N.C. – A total of 10 different players scored for the Converse University lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon, as they demolished Lees-McRae 24-5 at Tate Field.  

With the win Converse improves 3-3 overall this season and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas action this season. The 24 goal outburst by the Valkyries offense was the fourth highest total in program history and the most since a 21 goal performance against Erskine (3/28/23) last season. Meanwhile, Lees-McRae falls to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas play.

Becky Reinhard and Megan Holleran made the biggest impact in the game on Saturday. Reinhard tied her season and career high with seven goals in the win, while Holleran finished with a career high six assists against the Bobcats.

Karly Driscoll had a career high four goal performance against Lees-McRae and finished as the second leading scorer on the team. Karter Lauer tied her career high in goals with a hat trick and freshman Izzy Eby posted her fifth hat trick of the season. Gencie Coan finished with a career best four assist performance against the Bobcats.

Holleran and Reinhard got the scoring started with a goal in the first 20 seconds of the game. The Valkyries offense was firing on all cylinders as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game.

Mckenzie Mellen got the Bobcats on the board with a goal at the 6:08 mark of the first quarter. The Valkyries responded with a trio of goals and led 10-3 at the end of the first period following a pair of late goals by Lees-McRae.  

In the second quarter, the Valkyries opened up the period on a 6-0 run with goals by Hailey Obenchain, Eby, Reinard and Driscoll. Shannan Korovich scored a late goal to avoid being shutout in the second period.

Leading 16-4 at the halftime break, the Valkyries kept their foot on the pedal and outscored Lees-McRae 8-1. The half was highlighted by a pair of goals by Brooke Bartlett and Ashley Ames. For Bartlett scored her first goal of the season, while Ames scored her first career goal with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter.
