Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Drops Doubleheader to King

Bristol, Tenn.  – Despite an early lead in game one of the team's doubleheader with the King Tornado (17-11, 4-2 Conference Carolinas), the Converse University softball team (13-19, 2-4 Conference Carolinas) fell in both games of their doubleheader with the Tornado on Tuesday afternoon. King won game one 14-6 and took game two 7-3.

Freshman Madison Davis led the team with three RBIs on the day. Sophomore Ayellad Howard knocked three hits in the first game while fellow sophomore AJ Albano had two of the team's four hits in game two.

Game One: King 14, Converse 6 (5 Innings)

A lead-off single turned into three two-out runs for the Valkyries as freshman Madison Davis and sophomore Victoria Dichio hit back-to-back RBI doubles. King picked up a pair in the bottom of the first inning to cut the lead to one.

Sophomores Ayellad Howard and Chesney Miles each knocked in a run in the top of the third, but a trio of runs came across the plate for the Tornado and the game was knotted-up at five runs a piece.

The Tornado plated nine runs in the bottom of the fourth and while Converse scored once in the top of the fifth, King was still ahead by eight runs, 14-6, winning the game via the run rule.

Game Two: King 7, Converse 3

King opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Converse cut the lead down to one as sophomore Jaydin Gentile reached on a throwing error by the Tornado's shortstop.

Lingerfelt almost escaped a two-on, no-out jam by striking out two batters, but King managed to score three with two outs, bringing their lead up to four runs, 5-1.

Davis plated Converse's second run with an RBI in the top of the sixth. The Valkyries loaded the bases, allowing sophomore Karleigh Crabill to bring in a run with a walk. The Tornado got the runs back in the bottom of the inning, bringing the score to 7-3.

One hit in the top of the seventh wasn't enough for Converse and the Valkyries fell 7-3.
