SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Converse University sophomore attackman Hailey Obenchain reset the career record book with her 54^th career assist on Tuesday night, as Converse dropped a 21-13 decision to Belmont Abbey at Weisiger Stadium.

With the loss Converse drops to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas action. Belmont Abbey improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas play.

Belmont Abbey jumped out to a 5-0 start in the opening five minutes of the game against Converse on Tuesday night. The Valkyries called an early timeout and Gencie Coan and Izzy Eby both scored for the Valkyries in the closing moments of the first quarter. With the assist to Coan, Obenchain set the official program record for assists in a career with 54.

In the second quarter the two teams each scored three goals each, as Coan Eby and Obenchain all scored for the Valkyries in the period. Belmont Abbey went into the halftime intermission up 8-5 over Converse.

The third quarter was the highest scoring period of the match, with Belmont Abbey outscoring Converse 6-5 in the quarter. Obenchain, Eby and Becky Reinhard all scored for the Valkyries in the third period of action.

In the final quarter of action, Belmont Abbey outscored Converse 7-3, with the Valkyries three goals coming from Eby, Holleran and Obenchain.
