SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In their second game of the season against the regionally-ranked Francis Marion Patriots (8-1, 4-0 Conference Carolinas), the Converse University women's basketball team (3-7, 1-3 Conference Carolinas) had four players post double-digit scoring numbers. It wasn't quite enough as the Patriots won the game 69-54.

Two guards led the way for Converse in the scoring department: graduate student Jordan Brown and junior Andrea Gutierrez Ciordia who each scored 13 points. Graduate guard Alisa Davenport and senior guard Elisa Solé Sanchez each netted the Valkyries 12 points.

The Valkyries shot 33.3% from the field and went 2-for-3 from beyond the arc in the first quarter. The teams went toe-to-toe for most of the first quarter until Francis Marion ended the first quarter on an 11-0 run over the final two minutes.

Converse cut into the lead in the second and third quarters, outpacing Francis Marion 16-12 and 18-16 respectively. The Valkyries shot 51.7% from the field over the middle two quarters and were 3-for-7 from three-point range. By the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Valkyries had cut the lead down to just six points, 51-45.

The Valkyries struggled a bit from the field in the fourth quarter as Francis Marion pulled away 69-54.

The Valkyries are back on the court one final time in 2024 as they host the Coker Cobras for a nonconference matchup on Saturday, Dec. 21.
