SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In the teams' first-ever meeting, the Elizabeth City State Vikings (2-3) downed the Converse University women's basketball team (1-3) by a final score of 65-58. Sophomore center Olivia Martin led the Valkyries in scoring for the first time in her career. She tallied 11 points.

Behind Martin, graduate guard Alisa Davenport and junior Bentlee Chockley both netted nine points. Senior Zariyah Washington led the Valkyries in rebounding with six boards. Chockley and junior guard Alexis Becker each tallied five rebounds.

The Valkyries outpaced the Vikings 20-14 in the first quarter before halving that output in the second quarter. The Valkyries put up 28 points in the second half, evenly split between 14 points per quarter.

The Valkyries largest lead came with 7:35 remaining in the first quarter as the Valkyries opened the game on an 8-0 run. Converse led with 1:12 remaining in the game, but Elizabeth City State scored the final 10 points of the game, securing the Vikings a 65-58 victory.

The Valkyries are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 23 as they head to Florence for a matchup with the Francis Marion Patriots to kickoff Conference Carolinas play. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 P.M.
