Liebig Nets Game Winner As Valkyries Down Emmanuel

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Both of the Converse University women's soccer team's (8-4-3, 6-1-3 Conference Carolinas) leading scorers netted goals as the Valkyries defeated the Emmanuel University Lions (4-10-2, 4-5-2 Conference Carolinas) by a final score of 2-1 Wednesday night at Weisiger Stadium.

Junior Jasmine Hernandez, who leads the team in scoring with 15 points, netted the first goal of the game at the 21 minute mark in the first half. The teams had a nearly-even attack in the first half, with the Valkyries taking four shots while allowing the Lions a trio of their own.

Just over 18 minutes into the second half, sophomore Hannah Liebig, the Valkyries' second leading scorer with 11 points, netted her fifth goal of the season, pushing the Valkyries' lead to 2-0.

The Valkyries looked to be cruising to another clean sheet, but a goal with just under six minutes left in the match cut the lead in half. It was the only goal they managed and Converse secured the 2-1 victory.

The Valkyries return to the pitch on Saturday, Nov. 2 as they host the Lees-McRae Bobcats for senior day. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 P.M.
