Valkyries Complete Season Sweep of King

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second time this season the Converse University women's soccer team (7-4-2, 5-1-2 Conference Carolinas) recorded a 2-0 victory over the King University Tornado (1-9-2, 1-6-2 Conference Carolinas). The Valkyries have recorded three consecutive shutout wins over the Tornado dating back to last season.

The Converse defense was once again dominant, limiting the Tornado to no shots in the first half. The Valkyries' offense helped the efforts by controlling the game and taking six shots of their own in the opening period. One of those shots was a 27th minute penalty kick from senior Ellie Gore who buried the ball just inside the left post past the hand of King's outstretched keeper.

Team scoring leader Jasmine Hernandez netted her sixth goal of the season in the 52nd meeting, sealing the team's second 2-0 victory over the Tornado in three days.

Freshman goalkeeper Gabriella Gudeman posted her sixth solo shutout of the season in the victory. She and sophomore Allie Nepomuceno also combined for a shutout in Tuesday's victory over King.

The Valkyries return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 26 as Conference Carolinas play continues in Wilson, North Carolina against Barton. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 P.M.
