SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University field hockey team fell 2-1 in overtime to Lander University on Sunday afternoon at Weisiger Stadium.
With the loss, Converse falls to 7-5 overall and 5-5 in South Atlantic Conference action this season. Lander improves to 7-4 overall and 6-2 in South Atlantic Conference play.
The Converse offense started out with a bang, as
Catalina Pistaccio found
Caroline Blair for the first goal of the contest. The Valkyries went on to outshoot the Bearcats 5-2 in the opening half and they also recorded a pair of corner attempts in the process.
Midway through the third quarter, Lauren Punt found Dusty-Rose Miller for the game tying goal. The Bearcats and the Valkyries held one another scoreless the rest of regulation. For the second straight day the Valkyries found themselves in overtime match. Five minutes into the first overtime period, Victoria Hulst scored the game-winner for Lander.
Samantha Daly and
Caroline Blair tied for the team lead with two shots each, while Pistaccio and
Amparo Figueroa both recorded a shot in the loss. Pistaccio picked up her third assist of the season, while Blair scored her second goal of the year.
Tess Koppers played all 65 minutes in goal for the Valkyries and made a save in the loss.

The Converse Field Hockey team will hit the road this week and travel to Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday afternoon.
