WINGATE, N.C. – The Converse University field hockey team suffered their second heartbreaking loss of the week on Saturday afternoon, when they fell 2-1 in overtime at Graham Gill Field.
With the loss the Valkyries fall to 7-4 overall and 5-4 in South Atlantic Conference action. With the win, Wingate improves to 11-3 overall this season and 9-2 in South Atlantic Conference play.
In the first quarter, the Bulldogs came out aggressive on the offensive side of the ball and outshot the Valkyries 7-2. Converse stood strong on the defensive side of the ball and made a trio of saves against the Bulldogs offense. The second quarter was fairly quiet for both sides as they headed to the halftime intermission scoreless.
In the third quarter the two teams tallied a total of 10 shots, and the Valkyries recorded another trio of saves in the period. Finally, in the fourth quarter

Catalina Pistaccio for her 10
th goal of the season. The Valkyries lead was short lived however, as Riley Robinson found Rylie Cordrey for the equalizer.
In the overtime period, Converse was outshot 5-1 as Cordrey scored the game-winning goal for the Bulldogs. Pistaccio led the offense with a trio of shots in the match, while Figueroa finished second on the team with a pair of shots in the loss.
Alina Puentes finished with 13 saves in goal for the Valkyries.

The Converse Field Hockey team will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at Weisiger Stadium. The Valkyries will battle Lander starting at 1:00 p.m.
