SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University field hockey team lost a 2-1 thriller against Limestone on Tuesday evening inside Weisiger Stadium.
With the loss the Valkyries drop to 7-3 overall this season and 5-3 in South Atlantic Conference action. Meanwhile, Limestone improves 8-3 overall and 7-3 in SAC play this season.
The I-85 rivalry was intense and close as always in the opening moments of the game. Neither team scored in the first half of action, Limestone outshot the Valkyries 7-1, but Converse made 7 first half saves to keep the match scoreless going into the halftime break.
In the second half the Saints struck first with a goal from Zoe Bergmann. Limestone outshot the Valkyries 4-0 in the third quarter. Converse stayed strong though and with five minutes left in the fourth quarter,

The last five minutes of the match were the most intense as Limestone was awarded numerous penalty corner attempts in the final minutes of the contest. With 11 seconds to go in the game, Felicitas Herrero Ma found Zoe Bergmann for the game-winner against the Valkyries.
