SALISBURY, N.C. – The Converse University men's basketball team fell 71-65 to Livingstone on Tuesday evening inside the William Trent Gymnasium.
With the loss Converse drops back-to-back games for the first time this season and falls to 9-3 overall on the year. Livingstone improves to 5-7 overall on the season following the win.
CJ Jamison led the Valkyries with an 18-point and 11-rebound performance against the Blue Bears.
Uzziah Dawkins and
Kervens Yacinthe finished second on the team with 14-points each.
First Half Notes:
- Livingstone won the opening tip-off and scored on their first possession of the game. The Blue Bears started off hot as they began the game on an 8-0 run.
- Nearly four minutes of game time ticked off the clock before Leonardo Da Campo scored the first points of the game for Converse, with 16:25 to play in the half.
- Moments later, Dawkins and Yacinthe hit back-to-back three pointers and the Valkyries were back within a point at 10-9.
- Livingstone then went on a 9-2 run and held a 19-11 advantage with 10:32 to play in the opening half.
- Converse once again went on the attack and slowly trimmed the Blue Bear's lead. With 4:50 left in the period, Malcolm Morgan made a fast break layup and the Valkyries trailed 25-24.
- Livingstone ended the opening half on a 9-3 run and took a 34-27 lead into the halftime intermission.
- Converse shot 33 percent from the field, 31 percent from three-point range and 60 percent from the free throw line.
Second Half Notes:
- Coming out of the halftime break, Da Campo scored the opening points of the half with a layup. Moments later Jamison hit a three-pointer and the Valkyries trailed 36-32.
- At the 16:26 mark of the half, Livingstone held a 43-33 advantage, following a Pharoah Lassiter jump shot.
- Following the media timeout, Yacinthe knocked down a three-pointer and sparked a 12-0 by the Valkyries offense. With 10:51 to play in the game Dawkins made a layup to give Converse a 47-46 lead.
- The two teams went back-and-forth over the next several minutes of game time, before Livingstone started to pull away with 3:17 to play in the game.
- Converse outscored Livingstone 38-37 in the second half, shooting 45 percent from the field, 31 percent from three-point range and 25 percent from the free throw line.
