SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – Looking to bounce back after a narrow defeat to the Southern Wesleyan Warriors, the Converse University women's basketball team () fell 66-57

Graduate guard Jordan Brown and junior guard Zariyah Washington both led the team in scoring with 10 points. Washington posted five rebounds and Brown added four to her statline. Washington also claimed six of the Valkyries' 11 assists in the game.

After opening the game with a pair of free throws due to an administrative technical foul on Chowan, the Valkyries found themselves up in the first quarter with a lead that grew to as many as five points. After letting the Hawks come back to tie the game, Converse ended the opening quarter with a slight advantage reclaiming a three-point lead, 18-15, heading into the second quarter.

The two teams were again evenly matched in the second quarter with each making exactly five field goals, one from beyond the arc. The only advantage either team managed was a pair of made free throws for the Hawks, cutting the three-point lead to just one, 29-28, heading into the locker room.

After claiming the lead with just under a minute played in the second half, Chowan took a lead they would relinquish just once over the next 19 minutes of game time and the Valkyries fell 66-57.

Converse returns to the court on Monday, Jan. 15, as they head to Columbia to take on the Benedict Tigers for the second time this season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 P.M.
