Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C.  – After an early first-quarter deficit put the Benedict Tigers (3-12, 1-7 SIAC) up early, the Converse University women's basketball team (5-9, 2-5 Conference Carolinas) were unable to match the early-game scoring from the Tigers and fell 65-49.

Three Valkyries shared the team lead in scoring with nine points: junior guards Zariyah Washington, Elisa Solé Sanchez and graduate guard Jordan Brown. It is the consecutive game in which Washington and Brown have shared the team lead for points scored. Brown led the team in rebounding with eight on the night.

Junior center Mary-Grace Durham and freshman center Olivia Martin each scored their first points of the season for the Valkyries. Each center made their second appearance of the season in Monday's contest.

The Valkyries shot 28.3% from the field and made two three-point shots. A slow start in the first quarter left the team down 18 points heading into the second quarter. After falling further behind in the second, the Valkyries flashed hope in the third as they outscored Benedict by eight points. But with the early lead still intact, the Tigers secured the 16 point, 65-49.

Converse returns to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 17 as they host Johnson & Wales at 5 P.M.
