SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's basketball team stumbled at home for just the second time this season, when they lost 76-59 to Chowan on Saturday afternoon inside the Weisiger Center.
Saturday's loss was the worst shooting performance of the season for the Valkyries. Converse is now 10-5 overall and 4-3 in Conference Carolinas action. Chowan improves to 10-6 overall and 4-3 in Conference Carolinas play.

Uzziah Dawkins led the Valkyries with a 25-point performance.
CJ Jamison and
Jay Mitchell both tied for second on the team with 12-points each against the Hawks.
First Half Notes:
- Chowan won the opening tip-off but missed on their first shot attempt of the game. In fact, both teams missed on their first few opportunities.
- With 18:20 to play in the half, Malcolm Morgan found Jamison for a three-pointer and the opening points of the game for Converse. Chowan tied the game at three with a shot by Daylan Akew at the other end of the floor.
- Converse took a 6-5 lead into the first media timeout of the opening half. Coming out of the break, Chowan went on a 9-0 run and took a 14-6 lead over Converse.
- Dawkins then tried to will the Valkyries offense back to life, as he went on a personal 8-3 run. The performance by Dawkins cut the Hawks lead to 17-14 with 11:10 to play in the half.
- Point came at a premium the rest of the half, as Chowan finished the period on a 17-11 run. Going into the halftime intermission, the Valkyries trailed 34-25.
- Converse shot 21 percent from the field, 23 percent from three-point range and 90 percent from the free throw line.
Second Half Notes:
- Coming out of halftime, Chowan drew first blood with a three-pointer from Daylan Askew. Dawkins scored the first points for Converse at the 17:55 mark of the period.
- Converse was forced to use an early timeout as Chowan took a 48-29 advantage in the early moments of the second half.
- Dawkins once again tried to jump start the offense with a personal 6-0 run but the Valkyries were unable to keep an offensive charge going in the contest.
- Despite the Valkyries best efforts, they were unable to cut into the Hawks lead. CJ Jamison scored the final points of the game for either side with 22 seconds left in the contest.
- Converse was outscored 42-34 in the second half, shooting 35 percent from the field, 27 percent from three-point range and 56 percent from the free throw line.
